Wesley Motorsports Takes First Place In Unlimited RWD at Global Time Attack, Road Atlanta

May 14, 2018, Lansing, MI

In April, Wesley Motorsports unveiled its 2018 competition machine, a lightly modified Dodge Challenger Widebody with a Hellcat supercharged engine and aero upgrades inspired by the Dodge Viper ACR. Just one month later, the Dodge has already claimed its first victory at the 2018 Global Time Attack at Road Atlanta.

Global Time Attack (GTA) is a fastest-lap competition held on road-race circuits in which competitors make timed solo runs around a course with different classes based on car modifications and tire treadwear. The Wesley Motorsports car was up against stiff competition as rules for the Road Atlanta event made the Kumho Treadwear 200 Kumho V720 ACR-clad Challenger ineligible for all but the top Unlimited RWD class. This pitted the Wesley Motorsports entry against highly modified competition on full-race slicks.

“It was an uphill battle that was close right to the end,” says Wesley Motorsports owner Kevin Wesley. “The Challenger was the only American manufacturer entered in Unlimited Class and the 2nd fastest American car in the entire field. For the Challenger to do so well says a lot about the team who built it and its driver.”

One of the goals of Wesley Motorsports is to showcase the competitive qualities of its stock-based racing stable. Other than the Bilstein MDS double-adjustable dampers, the majority of modifications to the Challenger have been built entirely from the Mopar parts supply. The Challenger pulls from the Dodge Viper ACR for its aero, using a factory Viper ACR Extreme wing, splitter and canards. The front brake calipers are the Dodge Viper ACR-spec Brembo units. In order to run the 355/30/19 Kumho V720 ACR tire, all four corners of the Widebody are sporting Jongbloed 19” x 12” 2-piece wheels. The final result is a Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody that is close to a production version of the car with the only significant fabricated modifications made in regard to safety.

“We just had a perfect event,” says Wesley. “There was no drama, the car was flawless. Everyone just did their job and we made it to the top of the podium.”

The next race for Wesley Motorsports is the 12.43 miles and sheer cliffs of the 2018 Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. In 2016, Wesley Motorsports set a TA2 qualifying record and finished 2nd in class with Kevin Wesley behind the wheel of a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. For 2018, Wesley returns to the mountain in TA1 with the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody,

“We are super stoked about the performance of our Wesley Motorsports car this year,” says Wesley. “The Hellcat engine has given us unbelievable power to maximize the performance of the Wesley Motorsports www.WesleyMotorsports.com Kevin@WesleyMotorsports.com

Bilstein MDS dampers and Kumho Ecsta V720 ACR tires. The car has far exceeded our expectations at this point in the program with a win and a runner up in the first two outings. We are looking forward to continued success in 2018 and can’t wait to get back to our Time Attack schedule after our stop at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody in June. Wesley Motorsports would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our supporters, especially Dodge, SRT, Bilstein and Kumho Tire. Without all of their teams dedication to this program, none of our success would be possible.”
