Our AMC Rambler Aka "The Great American" Makes its HOTROD Magazine Debut
ARH Celebrates a One-of-a-Kind Build: Nick Filippides’ AMC Rambler aka "The Great American"
At American Racing Headers, we’ve always believed that passion drives innovation and our "Great American" project captures that spirit best! Nick Filippides’ 1964 AMC Rambler American, recently featured stole the spotlight on HotRod in a detailed and inspiring article.
In a world filled with Camaros, Mustangs, and Chevelles, this Rambler dares to be different — and that’s exactly what makes it so special. What began as a $3,200 project car evolved into a no-compromise masterpiece: nearly 650 horsepower of naturally aspirated AMC muscle, wrapped in timeless vintage style and engineered precision from top to bottom.
This build isn’t just about horsepower or polish. It’s about a vision that blends ’60s rawness with modern reliability, while staying true to AMC’s heritage. From the cleverly disguised EFI setup hidden inside an original Edelbrock cross-ram intake to the flawless craftsmanship underneath the car, every inch reflects the same philosophy that drives American Racing Headers: uncompromising performance with integrity and creativity.
Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without an exhaust system that performs as good as it looks. Beneath the impeccable bodywork lies an ARH-built masterpiece. A stepped 1-7/8" to 2" primary headers feeding into a 3.5-inch X-pipe and dual 3-inch exhaust that exits cleanly through the bumper. The sound is as authentic as the car itself: pure, raw, and most of all American.
This project was never about chasing trends or trophies. As Nick says, “I like building cars you don’t see every day — and I don’t cut corners.” That mindset is the backbone of everything we do at ARH.
We’re incredibly proud to see this Rambler recognized for what it truly is — a celebration of craftsmanship, collaboration, and the joy of doing something different. Huge thanks go out to the talented friends and builders who contributed their expertise, from Doug Triplett and Marty Zimmerman to Tom Goldman, Eddie G’s Muscle Car Garage, and many more.
